I’m from a small village in Malta. It was a great place to grow up. There would often be around 60 kids of all ages playing games like hide and seek, soccer or chasey together. In summer, we’d stay up playinguntil two in the morning! All the women would be playing bingo and the men would be at the bar or out fishing, and each night a different woman was in charge of all of the kids. And she was like your mother. If you misbehaved, she had permission to scold you, and when she was ready for everyone to go to bed, she’d call out and everyone would have to obey her!
